Delete old version of .NET Compact Framework from Pocket PC

.Net version

.Net version

The best way to installing NET Compact Framework 3.5 is to find and flash a Cooked ROM with NET CF 3.5 already built into it, most of the new one over @ xda-developers falls in this category. But what if you are not too keen to Flash your Windows Mobile with custom ROM ? We have some tricks that will help you achieve this.

First we need to find what version of .NET you are having on your device. Open your favorite File Explorer and go in to the Windows directory on your Pocket PC. Scroll down and find cgacutil.exe run it and it will popup a message box with the .NET version info.

If its not 3.5, we need to update it. There are 2 ways to do this

1) Risky Approach
I havent tried this myself, but supposedly this works. Some people have had issues with this so its essential to do a full backup before attempting this.

  • delete entry \local machine\software\microsoft\netcompactframework (delete all of it)
  • re-install net compact framework 3.5
netcfcfg

netcfcfg

2) Safe Approach

  • Head over to 1800PocketPC.com and download .Net 3.5 and netcfcfg.
  • Install both CABs to Phone memory
  • Run ‘.Net Configuration’ from your Start Menu
  • Navigating to the ‘Device Policy’ tab and select version 3.5
  • Click ‘Apply’ then ‘OK’
  • Reboot

Whats it does is that it forces Windows Mobile to use .NET 3.5 over the older version of .NET that might be present on your device.

  1. Thnx alot m8 keep the good work up <3

  2. I used the .net 3.5 cab twice here & another download. I restart my Omnia and notice no change as in added programs or search. I must be missing something though I would have thought the Omnia being on the market a short time would have been uptodated…I’ve had no luck with this new frame work and don’t understand it much at all…
